This Business Area Manager plays an essential leadership role within the logistics, mailing & material areas. This position has accountability for meeting the packaging processing, storage and dispatching of all outbound product. Will oversee the department Leads of Mailing, Material and Warehouse staff.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage daily activities of Mailing, Material and Warehouse departments to ensure excellent outbound traffic management resulting in on-time delivery to the end user under extremely tight delivery windows.
- Lead, manage and train all employees within the mailing, shipping/receiving and warehouse department on delivery procedures, safety, loading requirements, customer service and cost standards.
- Oversee the corporate logistics software systems to ensure information is accurate, and current.
- Communicate as needed with the LTL carrier contacts and report any potential transit issues to senior management.
- Assist with preparation storage, staging and dispatching of DM product for on-time delivery to USPS.
- Maintain compliance with customer routing and documentation requirements.
- Participates in daily production meetings and communicates status updates to management.
- Promote, manage and mentor the development of department Leads with focus on growth opportunities.
- Plan, manage and control daily workloads for assigned staff, including full-time, part-time and temporary employees in the Mailing, Material and Warehouse Departments.
- Plan and control labor with appropriate staffing levels for both full-time, part-time and temporary labor.
- Manage and monitor vehicle performance, maintenance and repair.
- Participate in budget planning. Track costs and perform cost-analysis in effort to identify cost savings measures.
- Provide training, coaching and direction to staff in effort to achieve high performance and succession planning.
- Make recommendations to address issues requiring disciplinary action.
- Use discretion to make decisions related to personnel actions including hiring, promotions, discharges, and transfers.
- Promote safe work habits for all employees by enforcing company safety rules and practices, conducting monthly crew meetings highlighted various safety and housekeeping topics.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY FOR: This position typically has supervisory responsibilities for positions within the mailing material warehouse and shipping departments.
REQUIREMENTS (Specific knowledge, skills, education and abilities):
- Typically has 5 years’ previous experience in a high volume manufacturing, distribution management, and freight movement/storage environment.
- At least 3 years’ supervisory experience including ability to train, develop and provide guidance to staff.
- Demonstrated leadership skills including ability to build a team.
- High school diploma required. College degree in Logistics or related field preferred.
- Comprehensive knowledge of DOT regulations.
- Comprehensive knowledge of freight rates.
- Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint as well as the ability to use typical email applications. Experience in supply chain management software a plus.
- Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely in both written and verbal communication.
- Proven success in contract negotiations.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills and ability to analyze situations and exercise discretion in resolution.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The incumbent is frequently walking and standing and will use hands regularly for computer usage.
