Under the direction of the Department Manager, the Distribution Specialist oversees the hourly workforce to ensure the timely and accurate shipping and receiving of materials and products at the lowest possible cost; the accurate placement and accounting of inventory; and the production lines have materials delivered when needed, in accordance with company policies and procedures.
Prioritize, schedule and delegate work assignments, and directly supervise the assigned material handling, shipping, receiving, functions to ensure the production of the highest quality products at the lowest possible cost, while meeting company standards for quality and performance, and customer delivery requirements.
Coordinate with other departments to maintain production schedules. Ensure the picking and delivery of the correct materials to the production lines when needed to support production schedules.
Assign work to maximize employee skills and abilities. Ensure the maintenance of assigned equipment in proper operating condition to minimize maintenance costs.
Participate on cross functional teams to ensure the continuous, on-going improvement of processes, methods, productivity and quality, while reducing costs.
Oversee the timely and cost effective shipping of products. Coordinate loads and timing for routes and pickups with truck drivers. Coordinate with purchasing regarding the returning of parts, and with truck drivers for pickups.
Ensure inventory is placed into the correct location in storage, and inventory counts are accurate.
Ensure the timely preventive maintenance and care for equipment. Order service as needed.
Ensure the training of new and present employees in the processes and methods required to achieve the company's standards for quality, quantity and safety, and consistent with the company's principles.
Develop and maintain positive employee relations and ensure open lines of communications with employees.
Comply with all quality, safety and work rules and regulations.
Appropriate education and/or experience may be substituted on an equivalent basis
Windows Office proficient, Intermediate Excel experience, required..
Candidates must have at least two years related experience in distribution/warehousing.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively with vendors and employees of the organization.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
