The Corporate Environmental Lead will provide guidance, support and assistance to plants through indirect reports of the internal corporate environmental programs, policies, procedures and management system with the objective of assuring all plants remain in compliance with all (as applicable and/or required) U.S. local, state and Federal environmental laws and regulations.  The Corporate Environmental Lead also has the responsibility of acting as liaison with internal and external entities pertaining to environmental regulation, partnerships (public, private, and industry), benchmarking, continuous improvement, education and awareness.  The following list summarizes, but does not limit, the routine responsibilities and tasks associated with this position.  

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Compliance -

  • Provide guidance, support, assistance, review and approval through indirect reports to assure compliance with all (as applicable and/or required) local, state and Federal environmental laws and regulations for all U.S. plants, including, but not limited to the following:
  • Training support, tools, resources and assistance for completion of monthly emission recordkeeping and reporting.
  • Semi-annual and annual compliance certification compilation, assistance, completion and submittal (as required for Federal Title V facilities).
  • Annual air permit emission inventory, compilation, assistance, completion and submittal.
  • Annual Toxic Release Inventory (TRI, SARA Section 313) compilation, assistance, completion and submittal.
  • Compliance testing arrangement, assistance, contracting, management and submittal of results for new press equipment, infrastructure (e.g., boilers) equipment and imaging (e.g., chrome plating operations) equipment to all (as applicable and/or required) local, state or Federal agency.
  • Bi-annual compliance testing arrangement, assistance, contracting, management and submittal of results to all (as applicable and/or required) local, state and Federal (as applicable and/or required for ozone nonattainment facilities) environmental agencies.
  • Annual Tier II (SARA Section 312) compilation, assistance, completion and submittal to all (as applicable and/or required) local fire department, county emergency response boards and state emergency response boards.
  • Annual hazardous waste inventory, compilation, assistance, completion and submittal.
  • Annual or quarterly monitoring, compilation, assistance, completion and submittal of sanitary or storm water parameters.
  • Provide guidance, support, assistance, review, approval and completion of the preparation of permit applications and associated supporting documentation (primarily air and water) to plants through indirect reports.
  • Provide guidance, support, assistance, review, approval and completion to plants through indirect reports on required training to include development, implementation, review and maintenance of programs to meet those obligations, including, but not limited to the following:
    • General hazardous waste handling (annual)
    • Hazardous waste coordinator (annual)
    • Universal waste handling (initial and annual)
    • Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasure (initial and annual)
    • Storm water (initial and annual)
  • Provide guidance, support, assistance, review, approval and completion to plants through indirect reports on required plans to include development, implementation, review and maintenance of plans to meet those obligations, including, but not limited to the following: 
    • Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasure (SPCC)
    • Storm Water 
    • On-Site Emergency
    • Malfunction Prevention and Abatement
    • Compliance Assurance Monitoring (CAM)
    • Risk Management (RMP)
    • Homeland Security
  • Provide guidance, support, assistance, review, approval and completion to plants to provide the necessary tools, education and resources for indirect reports to complete their jobs effectively and efficiently.
  • Provide guidance, support, assistance, review and approval on feedback, documentation and recommendations to Corporate Legal pertaining to matters involving Notices of Violations, Letters of Non Compliance, Consent Agreements and Decrees and proposed penalty assessments.  These matters will be communicated to the plants through indirect reports to ensure the allegations are not repeated at the respective plant or other facilities.  

Communications

  • Provide guidance, support, assistance, review and approval to plants through indirect reports for environmental problem solving for internal and external stakeholders (clients, customers, prospective customers, non-profits, state and federal agencies, schools and local entities).
  • Provide guidance, support, assistance, review and approval to plants through indirect reports of the development and maintenance of up-to-date environmental performance data for presentations, sales support, guidebooks, internet and intranet development and maintenance and internal communication resources to all interested stakeholders.
  • Provide guidance, support, assistance, review and approval to plants through indirect reports of documentation and recommendations to the Director of Environmental, Health and Safety, Corporate Environmental Manager,  and Corporate Legal pertaining to any Federal and/or state regulatory rulemaking that may affect the printing industry.
  • Provide guidance, support, assistance, review and approval to plants through indirect reports the monthly environmental reports.

Miscellaneous Project Management/Supervision/Assistance

  • Provide guidance, support, assistance, review and approval to plants through indirect reports of providing feedback, documentation and recommendations pertaining to the prioritization of remediation (air, water, land) projects as required or needed, in conjunction with Corporate Legal as applicable.
  • Provide guidance, support, assistance, review and approval to plants through indirect reports of providing management, feedback, documentation and recommendations pertaining to environmental due diligence (phase I, II, III Environmental Site Assessments) projects for real estate management projects (acquisitions, construction of new facilities, closure of facilities), in conjunction with Corporate Legal as applicable.
  • Provide guidance, support, assistance, review and approval to plants through indirect reports of providing management, feedback, documentation and recommendations pertaining to accidental releases to air, water or land when required or needed, in conjunction with the Director of Environmental, Health, and Safety, Corporate Environmental Manager, and Corporate Legal as applicable.

Miscellaneous Partnership Management/Supervision/Assistance

  • Provide guidance, support, assistance, review and approval to plants through indirect reports of compiling, completing annual Greenhouse Gas data.
  • Provide guidance, support, assistance, review and approval to plants through indirect reports of compiling, completing and submitting the annual USEPA SmartWay Transport data.
  • Provide guidance, support, assistance, review and approval to plants through indirect reports to support Corporate Purchasing personnel for auditing and surveying of vendors for environmental philosophy, performance results, partnerships, programs and initiatives that align with Quad’s environmental management system philosophy.
  • Provide guidance, support, assistance, review and approval to plants through indirect reports support for customer request for proposals, customer requests, sales requests and community stakeholder engagement.
  • Provide guidance, support, assistance, review and approval to plants through indirect reports the development, implementation, review and maintenance of Quad’s Sustainability Policy, Programs, and Continuous Improvement initiatives.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
Appropriate education and/or experience may be substituted on an equivalent basis

  • A minimum Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or Technology or related field or minimum 5 years experience in a corporate environmental-related position is required. 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Must be PC proficient using MS Windows, Outlook, Word, Excel, and the Internet.
  • Must be highly motivated; demonstrate excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Must be willing public speak on an as needed basis.
  • Must exhibit strong interpersonal and team building skills.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must possess strong project management skills and have the ability to make complex decisions and solve problems. 
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be willing to travel on an as needed basis.
