Job Overview:
The Groundskeeper maintains the lawns, gardens, plantings, and grounds to keep the outdoor areas clean, well-groomed and attractive for our employees, clients, and visitors. On occasion, indoor work is required, such as with holiday decorating and interior plant maintenance.
Job Description:
Prepare, plant, and maintain flowerbeds and vegetable gardens – plant identification, weed, water, thin, transplant, application of fertilizer, pesticide, and/or herbicide
Install and maintain trees and shrubs - identification and care to include pruning, trimming, fertilizing, removing dead wood, and application of fertilizer and chemicals; hedge trimming
Lawns: Install sod/seed, apply fertilizer, mow, trim, edge, aerate, thatch, and apply chemical treatments
Put down mulch
Inspect grounds vehicles and schedule repairs to keep them in safe operating condition at all times
Inspect grounds equipment, perform basic maintenance as instructed, and arrange for repair/replacement to keep the equipment in safe operating condition at all times
Maintain the appearance of outdoor venues such as pavilions and patios
Maintain the sports complex
Pick up litter and empty waste receptacles
Setup and teardown of outdoor furniture for events; move picnic tables
Paint railings, fences, and other exterior structures or furniture as directed
Maintain the irrigation system and replace defective sprinkler heads
Perform pond maintenance and stormwater management and inspections
Snow removal – plow, shovel, salt, and sand
Install and remove standard outdoor and special event signage
Put up and take down holiday decorations (may include some indoor work)
Plant and maintain container gardens
Participate in Spring and Fall cleanup
Qualifications:
Education
High school diploma or GED, minimum
An A.A.S. or B.A. degree is preferred
Experience
Minimum of three years experience in the grounds maintenance field – this includes working with plants, related materials, and horticultural practices.
Required Skills
Valid driver license
Ability to read blueprints and sketches
Ability to identify plantings
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Preferred Skills
Knowledge of indoor plants (identification and care) would be helpful
Physical Requirements
Lift, carry and transport up to 50 pounds
Work 40 hours per week with overtime when required
Bend, stoop, kneel, crawl, walk and stand for prolonged periods of time
Work in any kind of weather conditions native to the site
