Milwaukee Magazine, the region’s most-read monthly publication and leading lifestyle brand, offers the prestige of print plus the immediacy of digital through milwaukeemag.com, our fast-growing website. For almost 40 years, Milwaukee Magazine’s mission has remained the same: to deliver award-winning journalism that celebrates our city and to keep our readers informed about where to eat, shop, explore and simply have fun.

This is a great opportunity for a bright, hard-working, enthusiastic curator of content and idea generator who wants to join an award-winning magazine staff. This editor will help us meet our high standards on both our digital and print platforms, playing key roles in both publications.

Qualifications

The successful candidate is a culture addict with a need to know what’s going on in the city, both highbrow and lowbrow and an ability to channel that into immediate digital content as well as longer-term print stories. Excellent writing and editing skills are a prerequisite. This person will demonstrate an ability to plan out the culture section each issue, curating a balanced assortment of stories that represent the best of what the city has to offer in any given month. He or she should be able to think visually, working with the art department on packaging stories. This editor will assist with the daily operation of our digital platforms, particularly editing content and producing our newsletter but also assisting as needed with social media, special projects and digital strategy.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two years of experience with magazine-style writing/editing, either through a staff position or considerable freelance work
  • An ability to discern what the reader wants and channel it into fresh content
  • A writer’s eye for detail, style, tone and factual accuracy
  • A strong editing background, including a grasp of AP Style
  • Experience in content management platforms and managing branded social media
  • An eye for news, as well as reporting skills
  • A team-oriented attitude and willingness to pitch in as needed

NOTE: Please include writing and editing samples with your application.
