Employee Spotlight: Duffy Lampen, Senior Manager of Corporate Communications

Finding a path at Quad

Duffy Lampen didn’t always envision a career in corporate America. Originally planning to become a professor, Duffy pivoted after grad school and discovered Quad through the Corporate Trainee Program. Drawn by the opportunity to experience different areas of the business and build a strong foundation, Duffy joined Quad in 2019 and quickly found a home in corporate communications.

Career journey and growth

Duffy’s journey began with a unique “one and done” rotation in corporate communications, just as the world was about to change with COVID. Initially focused on migrating content for a new intranet, Duffy’s adaptability and contributions led to a full-time role as a content writer and strategist. Duffy’s responsibilities quickly expanded beyond intranet story writing to include broader internal communications and Quad’s initiatives around inclusion and belonging. Over time he added executive communications investor relations support to his responsibilities assuming a leadership role as Senior Manager, Corporate Communications. Duffy’s career has been shaped by a willingness to learn, a growth mindset and a knack for connecting with different teams across Quad.

Impactful projects

Duffy has played a key role in major business communications, including supporting the divestiture of Quad Europe and the acquisition of Enru’s co-mailing assets. These projects required navigating complex stakeholder needs from employees and clients to investors and new team members. Duffy thrives on connecting the dots, crafting clear narratives and ensuring that communications reflect the full spectrum of Quad’s business and culture.

One standout achievement was leading the overhaul of Quad’s annual 10K document for the SEC, distilling the company’s evolution into a concise, compelling story that highlights integration, collaboration and value creation.

Leadership style and mindset

Duffy attributes career growth to a “raise your hand” mentality, embracing opportunities, asking questions and being open to new ways of working. Whether supporting executive communications or experimenting with AI in marketing, Duffy demonstrates a commitment to continuous learning and creative problem-solving. Collaboration and obsessive integration are central to Duffy’s approach, as is a willingness to challenge the status quo for the sake of improvement.

Advice for new team members

Duffy encourages new employees to be proactive. Don’t be afraid to put time on people’s calendars, everyone at Quad is open to sharing their experience and helping others grow. Ask questions, even if you’re unsure: initiative is key to success. Volunteer for collaborative projects and stretch assignments — these open doors to new skills and relationships. Take advantage of professional development opportunities, from webinars to leadership courses and always keep learning.
