Employee Spotlight: Haley Black, Senior HR Project Specialist

Portrait of Haley Black

How Haley found Quad

Haley’s journey is a testament to resilience and initiative. As a first-generation college graduate, she earned two degrees from a private liberal arts college in just three years — much of it during the uncertainty of the COVID era. Despite the challenges of remote learning and canceled internships, Haley adapted quickly, choosing to focus on business and communication studies.

While exploring her next steps, she was matched with Quad’s Corporate Trainee Program through a digital recruitment platform dedicated to connecting early talent with opportunity. The program’s broad, rotational structure perfectly suited her curiosity and diverse skill set, providing both a welcoming community and a launchpad for her career. From the start, Haley brought a drive to make an impact, embracing every opportunity to learn, contribute and grow at Quad.

Career journey and growth

Starting her first rotation at Rise, Haley managed paid social media advertising for a major client before rotating into a Recruiting Coordinator role for the Corporate Trainee Program. There, she discovered a passion for HR, especially the chance to support and guide other early-career talent. Her next rotation brought her to the HR Business Partner team, where she took on onboarding, offboarding and eventually larger projects and culture initiatives. Over time, she became a trusted resource, extending her rotation to meet business needs and ultimately accepting a full-time role. Nearly five years in, she continues to thrive on the variety, challenge and impact of her work.

Meaningful work and impact

Haley’s initiative led to the founding of the A.C.C.E.S.S. BRG, a group dedicated to supporting employees with disabilities and advancing accessibility across Quad and the broader community; including Milwaukee, Chicago, Minneapolis and beyond. What began as a simple question, “Is there an opportunity to better support employees with disabilities?” grew into a thriving community and Board, championing meaningful change. For Haley, the most rewarding aspect of her work is building relationships and supporting people, whether through everyday questions or long-term projects. She values connecting with colleagues from diverse backgrounds, adapting her approach to individual needs and helping others navigate their own career journeys. Highlights like mentoring Brand Lab interns, two of whom she helped connect to the Corporate Trainee Program and are now colleagues, underscore how moments of personal connection and growth make her work truly meaningful.

Leadership, initiative and culture

Haley credits Quad’s open culture and the encouragement of its leadership and colleagues for her success: “You have to make it happen yourself. There’s no closed door. You make it what you want.” Throughout her time at Quad, she has experienced a workplace that truly values initiative, openness and collaboration. Her story is a testament to the opportunities available for early talent and the power of taking initiative and working together to turn new ideas into reality.

Advice for new team members

Her advice: Take initiative and share your ideas no matter your level or experience, your perspective is valued. At Quad, leadership is receptive and supportive, and there’s always an opportunity to contribute, learn and grow. The company’s openness to new ideas and willingness to help makes it a place where you can shape your own path and make a real impact. Haley’s journey is an inspiration for young professionals, showing that with initiative and support, you can build something meaningful and make a lasting impact.

Looking ahead

As she approaches her five-year anniversary, Haley is excited to continue her journey in HR, exploring new opportunities and supporting the business wherever she’s needed most. She’s inspired by the stories of colleagues who have reinvented themselves within Quad and looks forward to seeing where her own path will lead.

“At Quad, if you have an idea and are willing to put in the work, people will back you.”
