Employee Spotlight: Hayley Kohls, Finance, Innovation and Transformation Leader
How Hayley found Quad
Growing up in the area, Hayley was familiar with the Quad name long before joining the company. While studying at Clemson, a chance conversation at a campus recruiting event led to an introduction to Quad’s Corporate Trainee Program, a perfect fit for her background in finance and accounting. After rotations through multiple locations and departments, she found her niche in process improvement and automation, setting the stage for a career defined by curiosity and transformation.
Career journey and growth
Over a decade at Quad, Hayley has embraced a winding path; starting as a Corporate Trainee, moving through Operations Accounting, Internal Audit and then into Robotics Process Automation (RPA). Her willingness to take on new challenges led her from Finance to IT and back, each time expanding her skills and perspective. She’s held roles as a Plant Controller, Automation Leader and now heads up Finance Innovation and Transformation, where she continues to drive process improvements and mentor others. Each step, whether a formal promotion or a temporary assignment, has been seen as an opportunity for growth and learning.
Leading innovation and transformation
In her current role, Hayley spends her days collaborating across teams, listening to challenges and finding creative solutions, often leveraging automation and technology. She leads a team skilled in RPA, but also works closely with IT and other departments to break down silos and share knowledge. Her approach is hands-on: tackling immediate needs with practical fixes while also planning for long-term, scalable solutions. She values Quad’s openness to experimentation and the freedom to try, fail and ultimately improve.
Favorite projects and impact
One of her proudest achievements was a complete overhaul of the inventory process, which involved collaborating with multiple teams and integrating several tools. The result: a streamlined, digital workflow that reduced manual effort, standardized reporting and provided new analytics capabilities that saved hours each month for plant controllers and inventory teams. The project’s ongoing use and appreciation years later is a testament to its impact and her commitment to sustainable solutions.
Mentorship and career development
Mentorship has played a key role in Hayley’s journey. She’s benefited from both formal programs and informal guidance, especially from managers who encouraged her to take on new challenges and provided support during transitions. She values the “mini-rotations” within the company, which expose team members to different functions and spark new ideas for improvement. For her, continuous learning and sharing knowledge are at the heart of career growth.
Advice for new team members
Her advice: Never turn down an opportunity just because it’s unfamiliar. Embrace curiosity, ask questions and be willing to figure things out, even if you don’t have all the answers at first. Listening to others’ career journeys can provide valuable perspective and reassurance that twists and turns are normal. At Quad, those who thrive are the ones who stay curious, take initiative and support each other.
What Hayley appreciates about Quad
Hayley loves Quad’s culture of innovation, collaboration, and support. She values the freedom to experiment, the encouragement to learn from failure and the willingness of colleagues to help each other succeed. For her, it’s the combination of curiosity, teamwork and a shared drive to make things better that makes Quad a unique and rewarding place to grow a career.
