Employee Spotlight: Michael Lloyd, Electrician II
A journey of growth and opportunity
Michael Lloyd’s story at Quad began with family, his father was also an employee at Quad, helping Michael get his start at the Annex in Martinsburg, West Virginia. From those early days, Michael’s career has been defined by a drive to learn, grow and take on new challenges. He moved from a Finishing Technician to a Stitcher Operator, and with Quad’s support, pursued the Electrical Technology Program at James Rumsey Technical Institute, ultimately becoming a full-time electrician.
Leading installs and embracing responsibility
Recently, Michael has taken on increased leadership in major installations and larger projects, earning the trust to step into a Powerhouse Electrical Lead role. In this position, he supports process controls across the building while continuing to work alongside experienced team members and mentors. Selected for the role, he is currently working closely with a longtime mentor and will fully transition into the position following his mentor’s retirement in March. Working a Monday–Friday schedule and serving on call for emergency situations, Michael balances hands-on work on the floor with the responsibilities of his own office. This opportunity has brought not only professional growth but also a more consistent schedule, allowing him to spend valuable time with his wife and young daughter.
Family, community and gratitude
Michael’s journey to fatherhood was long and challenging, involving IVF, a process made possible by Quad’s insurance and the support of a close-knit community of coworkers who even started a fundraiser to help with the journey. The new role means Michael no longer has to rotate shifts or work nights; he gets to come home every day to see his daughter’s smile and be present for his family. “I only have Quad to thank for allowing that and helping me achieve where I am at in life and being the happiest husband, father and employee I could ever hope to be. I am beyond thankful.”
Values and advice
Michael’s success comes from never settling, always being open to learning and embracing new challenges. He credits mentors and supervisors for encouraging him to try new roles and pursue growth. For new employees, his advice is simple: “Be willing to learn as much as you can, try new things and don’t just clock in and clock out. There are a lot of opportunities, and you can really get somewhere if you’re open and persistent.”
Making a difference
For Michael, the most rewarding part of the job is knowing he’s made a difference, whether it’s keeping machines running, leading complex installs or being recognized for quality work by supervisors and colleagues. The Martinsburg team and Quad as a whole feel like one big family, always ready to support each other and celebrate accomplishments.
“Be willing to learn as much as you can and try new things.”
