ApplyGeneral Purpose of Job:
The Structural Designer is responsible for creating prototype technical illustrations of packaging ideas, on a variety of materials, to produce a dimensional drawing specifications and samples for the client.
Key Responsibilities:
Confirm accuracy and completeness of job order, set-up of the plotting table(s) and the maintenance of the production process to ensure that the design will successfully and cost effectively meet the customers job order.
Consult with the sales team on current and potential carton products and recommend the best ways to meet the packaging needs.
Protect client products and aid Quad in securing and maintaining key industry certifications through consistent adherence to quality, satisfaction, and excellence standards represented by AIB International, cGMP, FSC Chain-of-custody, ISO, and SFI Chain-of-Custody certifications.
Enter design into CAD program per the specifications of the job order. Design output must include information such as; materials, processes, dimensions, and tolerances.
Design cartons to fit customers product needs, that will run effectively on in their production process and run efficiently in Quad’s production process. Ensure that these designs will provide all functional requirements specified by the customer for the product.
Provide technical support as needed. Collaborate with sales and CSR team to offer ideas that create a better product/design offering to our customers.
Review and understand the filling equipment using the cartons to be produced by company. Ensure that designs meet these equipment standards and will run efficiently on the equipment. Help set internal standards to be measured to ensure that cartons are produced correctly to run on the equipment.
Program the cad files for prepress and die making that will be produced to cut the cartons in Quad’s manufacturing process.
Job Requirements:
Education: High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
Experience:
Minimum 5 years of CAD and ancillary systems or design related experience
Minimum 5 years of experience in packaging design and development
Previous experience with familiarity with Artios Cad; Adobe Illustrator and Design required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Ability to perform simple math calculations
Familiar with paperboard carton production and processing is a plus.
Understand input, output, raw material, waste, quality control, cost and techniques for maximizing the manufacture and distribution of goods process.
Knowledge of design techniques, principles, tools and instruments involved in the production and use of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
- Must be able to quickly and accurately compare letters, numbers, objects, pictures or patterns, including comparing a standard with production image.
Ability to troubleshoot problems and determine root cause.
Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
