Occupational Health Director

QuadMed is looking for an Occupational Health Director to join our growing team. This is a remote role.

GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB

The Occupational Health Director provides strategic leadership and enterprise-wide oversight for the occupational health service line. The role establishes the vision, strategy, governance, and performance standards for programs that integrate with primary care, advance workforce health and safety, and reduce employers' healthcare and productivity costs. This role is accountable for clinical and service quality, regulatory compliance, operational and financial performance, program growth, and client satisfaction. The Occupational Health Director collaborates with senior leaders, clinical teams, and clients to develop scalable solutions, achieve measurable outcomes, and ensure services align with organizational and client objectives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide strategic leadership and enterprise-wide oversight of the Occupational Health service line, including strategy development, program design, service delivery, growth, and operational performance.  
  • Partner with the Occupational Health Medical Director to establish and maintain service-line clinical standards, workflows, quality expectations, competencies, and training.
  • Represent Occupational Health both internally with QuadMed stakeholders and externally with clients and prospects.
  • Lead the development, implementation, management, and continuous improvement of Occupational Health services offered to clients.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements related to Occupational Health clinical operations across the organization.
  • Maintain current knowledge of Workers’ Compensation law in each state serviced, OSHA regulations and safety standards, Department of Transportation, Center for Disease Control and other regulatory areas relevant to occupational health programs.
  • Develop and maintain standardized policies, procedures, workflows, and practice guidelines that support consistent, high-quality service delivery.  
  • Establish priorities for service-line growth and enhancement based on client needs, performance results, research findings, and industry trends. Lead the implementation of new programs, services, clients, and locations as appropriate.
  • Establish service-line performance measures and oversee data collection, analysis, and reporting to demonstrate clinical, operational, financial, and client value.  
  • Create opportunities for collaboration throughout QuadMed to improve clinical outcomes across the populations served.
  • Develop and manage service-line plans to achieve business, quality, client satisfaction, return on investment, and contribution margin goals.
  • Lead workforce planning and people strategies for the service line, including staffing models, performance expectations, employee development, succession planning, and resource allocation.
  • Develop and oversee onboarding, education, competency validation, and ongoing training for employees supporting Occupational Health services.
  • Support the business development team in requests for proposals (RFPs) and client report outs.
  • Establish strong client relationships by understanding client objectives, delivering commitments, addressing service concerns, and identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Identify opportunities for process enhancements and leverage technology including the use of AI to improve service delivery and operational efficiency.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or necessary to support the organization.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education:  

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program required.
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing, healthcare administration, or related field required; master's degree preferred.

Experience:  

  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in an occupational or employee health setting required.
  • Minimum five (5) years of operational leadership experience required; occupational health leadership experience preferred.
  • Experience leading multiple direct and indirect reports, including remote employees, required.
  • Experience with quality improvement methodology required.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:    

  • Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of the position or compact state licensure required.
  • Certified in Occupational Health Nursing (COHN or COHN-S) required.
  • CPR or BLS certification within 60 days of hire required.  
  • CAOHC Certification within 60 days of hire required.
  • Certification in other Occupational Health related services (NIOSH-approved spirometry), preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:  

  • Strong people leadership skills with demonstrated ability to engage, develop, and motivate teams and drive consistent results.
  • Strong knowledge of healthcare operations, including staffing, performance metrics, electronic medical records (EMRs), clinical competencies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong strategic thinking and execution skills with the ability to build relationships across functions to achieve service-line and organizational objectives.
  • Strong relationship-building and influencing skills with the ability to serve as a trusted advisor to internal stakeholders and clients.
  • Demonstrate reliability and maintain confidentiality.  
  • Possess excellent oral and written communication skills along with the ability to listen, comprehend, and influence.  
  • Strong project and change management skills with the ability to lead complex initiatives from planning through implementation.
  • Strong business and financial acumen with the ability to manage service-line performance, evaluate financial and operational results, and support achievement of growth, ROI, and contribution margin goals.
  • Ability to respond effectively, meet deadlines, and perform decisively under pressure.
  • Must have a proven track record of being self-motivated and successfully managing multiple projects within deadlines.  
  • Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where limited standardization exists.
  • Establish standards quickly and effectively using strong change management practices.
  • Work effectively with all levels within QuadMed and client organizations, as well as with vendors and contractors.
  • Highly organized yet can work in a flexible, fast-paced environment.
  • Polished presenter in sales and account management settings.
  • Strong skills in MS Office suite, EMRs that support occupational health, data tracking, and management.
  • Demonstrated commitment to growing proficiency in the use of AI tools to drive efficiency and innovation across operations.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with diverse populations and a demonstrated commitment to fostering inclusion.

Travel:  

  • Travel to client sites for staff visits and/or client presentations as needed. 

Employees can be expected to be paid an annualized salary range of $130,000 - $150,000, based on variations in knowledge, skills, experience, and market conditions. Additionally, this role has a competitive benefit package and bonus opportunities.
