Learning and Development Specialist

GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB

The Learning & Talent Development Specialist strengthens the organization’s learning, development, and onboarding infrastructure by ensuring employees and leaders have access to effective, well-designed training and development resources. This role serves as the company’s primary learning management system (LMS) liaison with the parent company, supports consistent and effective use of learning tools, translates business training needs into practical learning solutions, and uses data to improve training completion and accountability.

This position contributes to a stronger learning culture by supporting employee growth and engagement, supporting new hire onboarding and orientation, advising leaders and subject matter experts on learning design, coordinating training solutions, facilitating learning governance activities, and supporting a consistent onboarding and orientation experience.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Learning Management System Administration and Reporting: Serve as the company’s primary LMS liaison with the parent company, supporting effective system use, course assignments, training records, completion tracking, reporting, troubleshooting, and process improvement. Monitor mandatory training completion, analyze overdue training trends, and present actionable data to leaders and committees to support accountability.

  • Instructional Design and Training Development: Consult with leaders and subject matter experts to define training needs, learning objectives, target audiences, delivery format, curriculum structure, and success measures. Design and develop engaging learning content using adult learning principles, including computer-based trainings, visuals, interactivity, knowledge checks, quizzes, and application-based tools.

  • Learning Consultation, Coordination, and Talent Development Partnership: Partner with leaders, SMEs, Human Resources, and the Quad (parent company) Talent Management team to identify and coordinate learning solutions that support team development, performance, and organizational priorities. Support instructor-led training logistics, facilitator coordination, communication planning, and access to enterprise learning resources, leadership tools, and development opportunities.

  • Learning Governance, Growth Mindset, and Employee Engagement Initiatives: Partner with the Vice President of Human Resources to lead the Education Committee and promote consistent, effective learning practices across the organization. Lead employee growth and engagement initiatives by developing resources and trainings that encourage employee development, engagement, ownership of growth, and a learning-oriented culture.

  • Onboarding and Orientation Support: Partner with the Talent Experience and Onboarding Lead to support new hire onboarding and orientation, including facilitating new hire orientation as needed, coordinating student onboarding, administering the new hire mentor program, maintaining required learning and policy bundles, supporting travel coordination for new hire training as needed, and completing other onboarding-related responsibilities.

  • Talent Process and Program Support: Partner with the parent company Talent Management team and internal HR leaders to support talent-related processes and programs, including performance evaluation tools, continuing medical education policies and tools, related training, communication, and QuadMed implementation needs.

  • Technology, AI, and Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process enhancements and leverage technology, including the appropriate use of AI tools, to improve learning design, reporting, service delivery, user experience, and operational efficiency.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Appropriate education and/or experience may be substituted on an equivalent basis 

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Education, Instructional Design, Business, Communications, Psychology, or a related field preferred; equivalent directly relevant experience may be considered.

Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in learning and development, instructional design, LMS administration, organizational development, training coordination, employee development, education, HR Business Partner, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 2 years designing, developing, facilitating, or coordinating learning experiences through teaching, curriculum development, instructional coaching, corporate training, adult learning, or learning and development.

  • Preferred experience includes:

    • Experience consulting with leaders, subject matter experts, or stakeholders to clarify training needs and develop practical learning solutions preferred.

    • Experience supporting onboarding, performance evaluation training, employee engagement, leadership development, or talent development initiatives. 

    • Experience administering or supporting an LMS, including reporting, course assignments, learner tracking, and completion monitoring.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • None required.

  • Preferred certifications or training may include ATD APTD/CPTD, SHRM-CP/SCP, PHR/SPHR, instructional design certification, Prosci, DISC, MBTI, Change Style Indicator, coaching-related training, or related credentials.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of adult learning principles, instructional design methods, and training evaluation practices.

  • Ability to consult with leaders and subject matter experts to translate broad training concepts into clear objectives, curricula, content, learning measures, and implementation plans.

  • Ability to design engaging computer-based and instructor-led learning content using visuals, interactivity, knowledge checks, quizzes, scenarios, and application-based activities.

  • Working knowledge of LMS administration, including course assignments, learner tracking, completion reporting, records management, and user support.

  • Excellent written, verbal, facilitation, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate clearly with employees, leaders, SMEs, HR partners, and parent company stakeholders.

  • Strong project coordination, organization, follow-through, and attention to detail across multiple priorities and deadlines.

  • Data analysis and reporting skills, including the ability to identify trends, summarize insights, and present actionable information to leaders and committees.

  • Ability to influence without direct authority and build collaborative working relationships in a matrixed or subsidiary/parent company environment.

  • Ability to support employee growth, engagement, onboarding, performance evaluation training, and development initiatives with a practical and service-oriented approach.

  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office tools, including PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams.

  • Experience with eLearning or content development tools such as Articulate 360, Rise, Storyline, Captivate, Camtasia, Canva, Vyond, or similar platforms preferred.

  • Demonstrated commitment to growing proficiency in, the use of AI tools to drive efficiency, innovation, learning design, reporting, and operational effectiveness.

  • Ability to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and use technology to improve service delivery, learning access, and user experience.

  • Proven ability to work effectively with diverse populations and a demonstrated commitment to fostering inclusion.
